GDP Does Not Measure Collective Mental Resilience

The world measures economy, GDP and growth, yet overlooks the fragile cognitive dimension of societies. This conceptual proposal places collective mental resilience among the indicators that matter.

🌍 The world talks about economy, GDP, and growth.
But almost no one considers the fragile cognitive dimension of our societies: collective mental resilience.
In my research, I propose a conceptual framework to track societal cognitive health:
🔹 Cognitive Resilience Index → highlights how societies withstand stress.
🔹 Cognitive Vulnerability Index → captures tendencies toward decline.
📊 Observations:
Countries that invest in social and educational resilience tend to maintain stronger cognitive stability.
Societies with more robust knowledge-sharing practices show better long-term adaptation.
To understand these patterns, we applied the LEXCOG approach, which distinguishes:
LEX → what leaders communicate
COG → what communities internalize
Trust→ structured knowledge and purposeful cognition
The lesson is clear: measuring and nurturing trust is critical for social, democratic, and cognitive resilience.
It’s time for global indicators to include this dimension. Health, democracy, and social stability depend on it.
