Two Sides of the Same Coin: LATAM and the Middle East
By Carlos J. Pérez Pulido · ISHEA Institute ·
Fourth instalment of the series: after mapping the Latin American board, Carlos J. Pérez Pulido sets LATAM and the Middle East face to face, two seemingly distant regions that are sides of the same coin.
Note — Short piece published openly. Thinking in progress, not a result.

🌎 LATAM y 🌍 Middle East parecen geografías distintas.
Pero responden a una misma lógica:
energía + seguridad + infraestructura + chokepoints + cadenas de suministro.
En LATAM:
🇻🇪 Venezuela → energía + Caribe
🇵🇦 Panamá → Canal + chokepoint
🇵🇪 Perú → Chancay + Pacífico
🇪🇨 Ecuador → nodo operativo
En Middle East:
🛢️ Golfo → energía
🚢 Hormuz → petróleo y gas
🌊 Bab el-Mandeb → rutas marítimas
🚢 Suez → Asia–Europa
Mientras tanto:
🇬🇧🇦🇪 REINO UNIDO + EAU
Londres y Abu Dabi profundizan cooperación en defensa, energía, comercio e inversión.
No es simplemente petróleo por defensa.
Es algo más interesante:
energía + seguridad + capital = arquitectura estratégica.
Y el tablero continúa hacia Asia.
🇮🇳 INDIA — GREAT NICOBAR

What if the variables we use to measure national success were completely backwards?
For decades, progress has been measured through GDP, productivity, growth and energy use. This piece argues those variables may be inverted and asks us to rethink what it means for a country to thrive.
